Network Engineer II/III
Polar Star Consulting has several contracts to support advanced data network engineering
for the federal government. The roles include network architecture, engineering,
and implementation support. We are looking for network engineers who have experience
in developing and executing enterprise or carrier-class networks for Wide Area, Local
Area, and Campus environments. This includes Ethernet, MPLS, and IP. Experience
in hardening devices for Information Assurance, and the design, deployment, and configuration
of network management is also relevant.
The work locations are primarily customer sites in Fairfax and Chantilly, Virginia.
Some travel may be required, mostly within the continental United States.
Polar Star is also involved with other network projects, and the successful candidate
will demonstrate the ability to contribute to these as well as new opportunities.
Required
- 3-5 years of experience in the engineering and deployment of enterprise or service
provider network infrastructure
- Layer 2 Ethernet engineering and MPLS engineering for core networks
- Layer 3 IP engineering and configuration
- Development and execution of equipment and network test plans
- Knowledge of Systems Engineering practice
Desired
- Network security and Information Assurance experience

Systems Architect II/III
Polar Star is seeking a candidate that has significant Architecture and Systems Engineering
experience. The successful candidate will support an existing program that is deploying
a combination of optical network transport equipment, network management systems,
and enterprise services.
Tasks will include:
- Interfacing with government program leadership and engineering staff for gathering
requirements and presenting solutions
- Solution development for Hosting environments, SONET, IP, Ethernet, VoIP, Email,
messaging, Video and other enterprise applications
- Development of network and systems operating concepts and related documentation
- Develop solution details, implementation plans, and operations approaches working
with the contractor engineering team
- Support or lead the development of Enterprise Architecture Roadmaps
- Support the development of Information Assurance approaches and support the IA team
The work locations are primarily customer sites in Fairfax and Chantilly, Virginia.
Some travel may be required, mostly within the continental United States.
Required
- 5+ years of Systems Engineering experience
- Experience in leading a team for solution development, creating design presentations,
design documentation, operations procedures and documentation
- Data networking experience that includes network architecture and information assurance
- Experience in email, VoIP, video conferencing, collaboration, and other messaging
applications a strong plus
- Experience in data center architectures and development
- Experience in Network Operations Center development for applications services (e.g.,
voice, email, etc) a strong plus
- Network security and Information Assurance experience

Information Assurance Engineer/ISSM
Polar Star has several contracts to support government customers and their mission. This
includes both the technical aspects of an Enterprise Architecture and its associated
Information Assurance specialist to support the Certification and Accreditation of
a mission critical set of government infrastructure. We are looking for a candidate
that can rapidly understand the goals of the customer and work with other contractors
to develop the processes, guidelines, strategies and documentation necessary.
- Managing and leading efforts in the review, application, and maintenance of information
assurance policies and procedures
- Review and maintenance of certification plans and accreditation documentation
- Performing security, analyses and risk/vulnerability assessments
- Conducting security tests and evaluations
- Coordination of certification and accreditation activity for project teams
- Evaluation of information assurance technologies for application to the projects
and systems
- Planning and support of security engineering
- Development of information assurance training for Information System Security Managers
and Officers (ISSM and ISSO)
- Working with Information Assurance working groups, planning teams, etc.
The work locations are primarily customer sites in Arlington, Herndon, and Chantilly,
VA. Some CONUS travel may be required.
The successful candidate will also serve as the Information Systems Security Manager
(ISSM) for Polar Star Consulting. This position is responsible to:
- Develop, implement and evaluate Security CONOPS, System Security Plans and/or System
Authorization Agreements to satisfy Certification and Accreditation requirements
in accordance with DCID 6/3, NISPOM Chapter 8, DITSCAP/DIACAP or other Goverment
guidelines
- Conduct periodic reviews to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures
ensuring all software, hardware and firmware changes are recorded as required by
configuration management policies
- Ensure systems are operated, maintained and disposed of in accordance with applicable
governing policies and procedures
- Maintain a broad knowledge of technology, equipment and/or systems to include the
configuration, maintenance, analysis and use of computer forensics tools, steganography
and metadata tools, audit reduction tools, firewalls, various operating systems and
phone switches
- Support and maintain the physical security standards for Sensitive Compartmented
Information
- Provide system administration support when needed
Required Experience and Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of Department of Defense Intelligence Information System (DODIIS)
and the Defense Technology Certification and Accreditation Process (DITSCAP) certification
and accreditation roles, responsibilities, and methodologies
- Demonstrated knowledge of security, technologies and their application (e.g., operation
system features, guards and firewalls, security tools, etc.)
- Experience in performing or participating in security test and evaluations (certification
testing)
- Demonstrated understanding of end user security processes, procedures and roles (Information
System Security Manager/Officer)
- Obtaining and managing security certification and accreditation of systems, networks
and sites
- Knowledge of DoD 8500 Series Regulations, DCID 6/3, NISPOM Chapter 8, and DoD Instruction
5200.40, DoD Information Technology Security Certification and Accreditation Process

Technical Business Architect
Polar Star Consulting has several contracts to support government customers and their
mission. This includes both the technical aspects of an Enterprise Architecture
as well as its business components. We are looking for a candidate that can quickly
understand the business component of an Enterprise Architecture and help our customer
develop the processes, guidelines, strategies, and funding approaches necessary for
the realization and operation of a resulting Enterprise Architecture.
Activities include organizing and guiding Polar Star, government, and other contractor
staff in the development, refinement, and maintenance of the organization’s Enterprise
Architecture and Concept of Operations. A good technical background in telecommunications
and information technology is essential.
The work locations are primarily customer sites in Herndon and Chantilly, Virginia.
Some travel may be required, mostly within the continental United States.

Required Experience and Skills:
- 10+ years supporting the Enterprise Architecture activities for one or more government
agencies.
- Experience in working with Senior Government Staff in the development of the full
lifecycle of Enterprise Architecture development including: Strategic Vision, Technical
Vision, Workforce Strategy, Business and Technical Process Strategy, Performance
Strategy, Integrated Services and Solutions Roadmaps, Customer facing Services Catalogs,
Organizational Prioritization, and Fiscal year plans and schedules
- Experience in leading Senior Government Staff through Strategic Planning, Corporate
Task Forces, and short-term and long-term investment strategies
- Knowledge of Systems Engineering practices
